ABES ACADEMY, the association's education and training sector, opens registration for a course on LGPD in order to offer more knowledge about the standards

São Paulo, October 20, 2020 - The General Data Protection Law (LGPD) already in force is necessary to ensure protection and privacy of personal data, especially in this moment of accelerated transition to an increasingly digital society. In view of this scenario, ABES - Brazilian Association of Software Companies developed, in partnership with EY, the ABP LGPD Index, which allows companies to diagnose their suitability for the new law. Among the more than 2,050 companies, from different segments, that responded, only 31,13% of the agribusiness businesses are in compliance with the requirements. The number is alarming and ABES ACADEMY, the entity's area of education and continuous training, will teach an online course to offer more knowledge about the standards.

Still, in the general scenario only 39,45% of the LGPD requirements are met. According to ABES president Rodolfo Fücher, being in compliance with the LGPD is a challenge for all areas of a company, human resources, sales, marketing, financial, administrative, and especially legal and IT, which need to ensure the existence of clear processes and adequate resources to prevent misuse of data and prevent information leaks and hacker attacks.

The index also reveals that the sector is far from this compliance, since 84.6% perform the collection of confidential data and 30.8% have already suffered an incident of violation in the last 2 years. The rural sector has grown a lot with the advancement of technologies and the adaptation to established laws gives more strength and relevance in this process.

"The indices are worrying, but ABES 'objective is not only to alert, but mainly to offer tools and references with the purpose of helping companies in their adaptation to the requirements of the LGPD", comments the institution's president.

In addition to offering suggestions on how the company can adapt to compliance after responding to the index and generating its result, ABES has opened registrations for the fifth class of the ABES ACADEMY General Data Protection Law: Fundamentals and Implementation course, to be held from 9 to 19 November, to disseminate more knowledge on the topic.

According to Thomaz Côrte Real, the association's legal advisor, it is important to foster the interest of companies in the matter to guide them on how to comply with the law. "There is no more time to waste, organizations need to adapt as quickly as possible," he says.

ABP LGPD Index

ABES and EY created the online LGPD Diagnostic tool for companies that are in the process of adapting their LGPD processes to check their level of suitability for the project. The solution consists of a confidential questionnaire through which companies can self-assess the different points required by law. After filling in, the tool offers a diagnosis as to the degree of adequacy of the company with suggestions contextualized to the result.

To use the tool, it is neither necessary nor possible to send personal or company information, such as name, CPF / CNPJ, among others. After completing the questionnaire, the PDF report is available for download with information regarding the level of suitability and suggestions for improvement - it is not possible to access this document later. The data, sent anonymously, generates the LGPD ABES Index on the compliance scenario of Brazilian companies in relation to the new law.
